Residents living at Gurnard Pines in Cowes have been evacuated tonight (Monday) amid an ongoing Police incident, thought to relate to the discovery of potentially explosive materials.
For the second time this year, officers have descended on a specific lodge on the busy site at Cockleton Lane, between Gurnard and Cowes.
Island Echo is told that the property at the centre of the incident was raided earlier on this evening, with officers making a shocking discovery.
As a result, 100m cordons have been erected around a number of lodges and those living nearest to the target property are being put up in hotels for the night.
It’s understood that the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Team from Portsmouth have been made aware of the situation, with a team being deployed to the Island – just like in March.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has an operational commander present at the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with further details expected on Tuesday morning.
