A break in at the Co-Operative in East Cowes has led to the entrance way being cordoned off by Police this morning (Wednesday). Officers are maintaining a scene guard around the store off York Avenue following an incident in the early hours. Island Echo understands that the store’s alarm system was activated sometime around 00:30. The sliding automatic door at the front of the shop has been left ajar having seemingly been forced open.
It is unclear at this stage what, if anything, has been stolen. The Co-Operative remains closed to customers this morning. UPDATE @ 10:01 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a large quantity of cash has been stolen from inside the store. The exact amount has not been disclosed. Officers are investigating the burglary with Police confirming that entry was forced into the premises in the early hours of this morning.
