Police on the Isle of Wight are continuing their investigations into the theft of a large quantity of cash from the Co-Operative in East Cowes, with no arrests yet made. As first reported by Island Echo, officers responded to the York Avenue shop during the early hours of Wednesday morning when an alarm system was activated at around 00:30. It was soon discovered that entry had been forced to the main door and that a large quantity of cash had been stolen. It has not yet been disclosed if the money was taken from the tills, a safe or a freestanding ATM located inside the store. The exact amount taken has not been revealed either.
Forensic investigators were called in yesterday lunchtime to conduct an examination of the crime scene in a bid to identify those involved. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that no arrests have been made, but enquiries continue. Anyone who has any information to assist the investigation is urged to contact Police on 101, quoting 44240023220.
