The search for a missing Newport man continues this evening (Sunday) as concerns grow for the 50-year-old.
Michael Hawkewell hasn’t been seen in nearly 48 hours after returning to the Island from the mainland on Friday. He was last seen at around 19:45 at the Red Jet terminal in Cowes by a family member.
Police launched a search for Mr Hawkewell using a Police helicopter with the assistance of the Dog Support Unit on Friday, however Michael was unfortunately not located. It is being considered that Mr Hawkewell may be on the mainland.
An appeal via the social networking website Facebook was launched to locate the much-loved taxi driver.
UPDATE TUESDAY: Police have this afternoon released a CCTV image of Mr Hawkewell as the search for the missing 50-year-old continues.
The CCTV footage still shows Michael entering the Co-Operative store in Terminus Road, Cowes at around 13:40 on Friday.
Inspector Andrew McDonald of the Newport Safer Neighbourhoods Team has today said:
“We are becoming increasingly concerned for Mr Hawkewell’s welfare and want to hear from anyone who has seen him or knows where he might be.
“We would also appeal directly to Mr Hawkewell to contact us to let us know he is safe and well.”
Michael Hawkewell is described as White, of slim build with short, brown and balding hair and is around 5ft 7″. He was last seen wearing a denim jacket, jeans and a dark-coloured T-shirt with black trainers.
