People are still going to the coast and beach despite Government warnings to stay at home because of COVID-19.
Her Majesty’s Coastguard is getting a number of calls reporting groups of people on beaches across the UK
Pete Mizen, assistant director for HM Coastguard, said:
“The rules are very simple and can be found on the Government website. Stay at home. The risk of spreading Coronavirus is huge and while you might be okay, the person you give it to may not. And if you get into trouble and have to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard, you’re then putting frontline emergency responders at risk of COVID-19 too.
“At this time of the year the beaches aren’t lifeguarded which is a double risk to you and our emergency responders. Help us to help you. Stay at home.”

What is wrong with these people? Oh it’s a lovely day let’s go to the seaside I’ve heard Isle of Wight is lovely let’s go there. Selfish bas*****!
But you’re allowed one walk a day? As long as you stay 2 meters a part and are only joined by people in your household you allowed to go out.
You need to read the story properly, it states that GROUPS of people were reported on the beaches, and i totally agree with Smithy.
Not in groups. Read it properly. They’re hardly talking about a solitary dog walker.
You can go out with members if your household… not every household is with young children. So could of just been a family…???
But not if you have to drive your car to a beach to walk.
I wonder if the island ferry companies are doing any vetting or checking of passengers coming from the mainland?
Highly unlikely
Of coarse they aren’t Joe what do they care, all they think of is profit. All other UK ferry ports are closed down inc. Scottish ones and Chanel Islands, this is the only one left wide open for visitors to bring it over here, that’s why we got 5 new cases. Makes me wonder that those with the power to do so are dragging their heals to do it aren’t some sort of share holders or something.
Of course not! According to red funnel they’re not allowed!
I live in East Cowes and the numbers of cars coming off the ferry are very few….I’d say they are nearly all essential journeys done by single travellers, so if there people at the Island’s beaches then they are residents of the Isle of Wight.
There are still visitors here. Where are the coach loads from weekend then? Have they all returned home
Nothing in the article suggests the people seen on the IOW beaches are from the mainland, comments are very prejudice and small minded. Government guidelines allow for daily exercise keeping 2m apart.
Yes but these were in groups not keeping to rules.
They spoil it for us all because if it continues they’ll end up closing off the beaches like they did with cars up on the downs because thoughtless people decided to go up in large groups for a jolly at the weekend. I’ve never seen so many cars up there at once and that’s what prompted the closure to vehicles.
Just do as you’re asked and go alone or with family so we can all continue to enjoy the lovely areas of freedom we still have available while we can. We’ll need these places in the weeks to come.
In your local area only. Not a drive to the beach to exercise.
What risk is there for people if you drive a private car, get out, sit on a beach all day, instead of sitting watching depressing news or some make believe rubbish film?
The sun light, the fresh air and exercise, provided you don’t go near others is a good thing and I can see no ills, as people won’t be swimming in this miserable climate, so life guards and coast guards are NOT at risk. They should be spotting illegal immigrants floating over to the UK full of virus, to silently slip away, unseen, unknown, spreading the disease, not blaming locals grabbing a little HARMLESS if away from people, rare free pleasure.
Christ, if we don’t do this now, our own children could be ORPHANS in a few months anyway.
Quality time is important, even the young healthy are becoming death victims as we see today.
I am not saying to risk others, but no more harm sat in your garden than sat on almost empty beaches.
Because more people with your attitude would continue to herd and help the continual speed of the virus. You ideas will cost more lives.
Please become an responsible adult and play by the rules.
Not just the beaches, but marina’s and boat yards, lovely bit of paid free leave to do up the boat in lovely weather
These ppl aren’t just mainlanders there island ppl as well even won’t take the message into their heads
“on beaches across the UK”, not only IW. Ferry companies declared yesterday that they are not in the legal position to ask people about their reasons to travel.
What is wrong with the ferry’s still allowing these possible virus ridden people to still come here.
Simple question should be asked of anyone buying ferry tickets :– ” Is your journey necessary ? “
They aren’t allowed and won’t get truth anyway
Arrest them fine them give the money to the nhs…. they deserve it well done nhs
Hmmm
T-minus 20mins till Marshall law.
What can you say really, this is not a holiday!! On the Island or the mainland, you will always get selfish gits who think is doesn’t mean them. Come on ferry companies get your acts together, emergency, food and medical and obviously those who are undergoing medical treament
