yarmouthlorryincidentUPDATED: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance is this morning (Wednesday) attending an incident in Yarmouth where a pedestrian has been crushed by a lorry.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene on Quay Street shortly before 10:00 following reports of a pedestrian having been hit by a lorry.

Island Echo understands the injured male – a delivery driver – has been pinned against his van by a passing DHL articulated lorry as the large vehicle made a turn. The casualty has suffered serious crush injuries and is currently being assessed and treated by paramedics and doctors from the HIOWAA.

yarmouthincidentPolice have closed the road near to the Wightlink terminal and the Air Ambulance has landed in a nearby car park, which has been closed.

Officers from the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit are investigating the incident.

UPDATE @ 11:50 – The delivery driver crushed against his van, who has sustained serious injuries, has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.

Quay Street has now reopened.

UPDATE @ 13:45 – The casualty of this morning’s incident is recovering in hospital this afternoon having received non-life threatening injuries, including what is believed to be a broken collar bone.
