A car has ended up in a ditch at a notorious junction on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Sunday) as a result of an overtaking manoeuvre gone wrong. At just before 08:00, police and paramedics were called to the junction of Forest Road and Betty Haunt Lane with reports of a crash involving a Skoda Citigo and a Vauxhall Astra. Island Echo understands that the silver Astra was travelling towards Newport and went to overtake the Citigo, which was turning right into Betty Haunt Lane. The 2 vehicles collided, sending the Astra off the road and into the ditch. The Skoda has sustained significant front end damage. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been sustained but the incident has led to the partial closure of Forest Road. Traffic heading towards the West Wight is being diverted via Middle Road whilst recovery of the vehicles takes place.
