A fantastic £7,158 was raised at WightFibre’s very special Star Wars Charity Premiere on Thursday night (19th December).
The event, the third to be organised by the company, was held at Cineworld in Newport. It’s here where 288 guests enjoyed a themed VIP reception followed by the screening of Star Wars IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
A minutes silence was held for WightFibre’s Simon Poole as guests took their seats. Simon was tragically killed in a road traffic incident in Southampton on Monday.
As well as the opportunity to mingle with Star Wars characters, guests had the chance to bid on memorabilia. Local auctioneer Rex Gully hosted a fast-paced auction of 5 lots. There was also a raffle held for a chocolate Millennium Falcon.
Money raised on the night will be going to Cowes-based UKSA to help get young people out on the water. The final figure of £7,158 will enable 240 children to be put through the Test the Water programme.
Over £15,000 has now been raised through WightFibre’s Star Wars events, with 2019 seeing a significant increase in monies raised when compared to 2017’s £4,459.
