A Sandown resident has used his time shielding in lockdown to create a stunning piece of garden art – a huge mural and flowerbed in the shape of the Isle of Wight!
Using garden materials and landscaping techniques former footballer, Oscar, 77, has built the outline of the Island in the form of a low wall and filled it with plants, chippings, and ornaments.
Oscar, who has previously raised almost £40,000 for charity through his Christmas light displays at his former home in Perowne Way, decided to take on the monumental task because he was bored.
A contractor was brought in to complete the labour intensive groundworks – which used over 10 tonnes of dirt – and construct the 75ft long outline wall.
Oscar used his gardening knowledge and skills to fill the newly created Isle of Wight shape with plants of all varieties and used ornaments to add extra detail to the Island, including Bembridge Windmill.

Very nice Oscar. Well done.
Wow so jealous…
Truly stunning and very different…
Absolutely a 1 off ….
True imagination turned into reality…
Should open it to the public when safe to do so….
I would pay to come and see it …
