ONE TRAPPED IN MIDDLE ROAD CRASH

rtcfirestockUPDATED: Firefighters are this morning (Wednesday) working to free one person who has become trapped in their vehicle following a road traffic collision on Middle Road near Brook.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the incident near to Chessel Pottery at around 07:00 following reports of two vehicles having been involved in a collision. One has ended up on its roof.

chesseltwocarmapThe road has been closed in both directions whilst fire crews from Newport, Freshwater and Yarmouth work to free the trapped motorist.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on the scene alongside Police.

UPDATED @ 08:30 – One male has been taken to hospital by ambulance after being cut free from his vehicle by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Southern Vectis school buses Routes 325 and 401 are diverting to reach their destinations, which may cause delays to services.

UPDATE @ 12:30 – The driver of an Isle of Wight Council-owned Land Rover Defender has been discharged from St Mary’s Hospital having escaped with minor injuries, it has been confirmed.

The condition of the driver of the hatchback car involved in the crash is currently not known, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Middle Road reopened in both directions shortly after 10:30.
