A former British Telecom phone box in the quiet village of Whitwell, which was transformed into a community library, has had new shelves fitted thanks to 2 of the area’s residents.
The iconic red painted box found its new purpose in life quite some time ago, and due to its substantial use as a new library, required some new shelves to store the books for even more years to come.
Whitwell Parish Council has thanked local man Neil Watkins for the ‘excellent’ job he did in installing the new shelves – which can now also be easily removed for cleaning purposes in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The new shelves coincided with a fresh coat of red paint for the library and nearby water hydrants with all the materials kindly donated by Andy at Jewson’s in Sandown.

Brilliant! Well done, and grateful thanks to everyone concerned!
