An old aged pensioner has been charged by Police after thousands of pounds worth of damage was made to cars in the Carisbrooke area with tyres being slashed on around 40 cars over an extended period of time.
Terence Smith, 67, of Purdy Road, Carisbrooke – one of the roads targeted in the attacks – has been charged following months of late-night attacks on vehicles on the Carisbrooke estate, which saw tyres slashed on a number of vehicles putting motorists out of pocket. However, it is understood Mr Smith has not been charged for all the attacks with evidence proving hard to obtain.
Residents living in the area were terrorised for months between November 2013 and May of this year with many being put into financial hardship. Police carried out door-to-door enquiries and eventually arrested a man back in May.
Mr Smith will appear in front of the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 7th October.
