UPDATED: The main road between Rookley and Niton has been blocked following a road traffic collision this morning (Tuesday).
A car is understood to have collided into a bank on Bleak Down near to The Chequers Inn pub, resulting in one person becoming trapped. The road is impassable.
The incident has led to the school bus Route 311 service becoming delayed by 30 minutes. The service will not serve between Niton and Rookley, with Route 102 operating in reverse. Route 329 is also delayed.
UPDATE @ 08:23 – One appliance from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is on the scene with firefighters working to free one male.
The crew from Newport Fire Station were called to the scene at around 07:50, with additional crews en-route.
The road is closed in both directions. Motorists are being diverted via Rookley and Godshill.
UPDATE @ 08:55 – The trapped motorists has been successfully freed from his red 4×4 by firefighters this morning and is being treated by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
The road remains closed.
