carrollnewchurchUPDATED: A rural lane in Newchurch has been closed by Police this morning (Saturday) after a car rolled onto its roof following a road traffic collision.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 06:15 after reports of a dark blue BMW 3-series Compact  having come to rest on its roof on Mersley Lane, near to The Garlic Farm.

Readers have reported that there was no one inside the vehicle when it was discovered, suggesting the driver fled the scene.

The vehicle has been recovered by Stag Lane Motors, however Newport Shute, Lime Kiln Shute and Mersley Lane all remain closed due to a oil spill on the carriageway.

UPDATE @ 09:45 – All roads have been reopened following the successful clearing of the scene by Island Roads.

This latest incident follows a series of similar collisions including a van rolling onto its roof in Burnt House Lane, Newport, a car onto its roof in Apse Heath near Lake and a Vauxhall Corsa landing on its side in Yaverland, Sandown.
