Island Echo has today (Monday) launched a brand new website, building upon the success of the previous website to bring the Island’s news source up-to-date and further securing the reputation of first for breaking news.
Readers can now experience an improved version of Island Echo – the first ever complete redesign – which not only includes an updated template, improved graphics and new features, but also includes significant behind-the-scenes improvements relating to reliability and performance including the upgrading of the site’s servers to limit downtime.
Over 52,000 people a month regularly visit www.islandecho.co.uk for all the latest news from across the Isle of Wight, delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In such a short space of time Island Echo has become a local household name with over 8,500 Facebook likes, 4,750 Twitter followers and a peak of 75,000 unique visitors to the website in July 2014.
Alongside a new website, Island Echo is now available on Snapchat! Simply add ‘islandecho’ to your friends list and get 10-second snaps of the Island’s news straight to your mobile device, free of charge. You can keep an eye out for Vine posts embedded into individual stories too as we introduce a greater emphasis on video media for 2015.
Having listened to feedback from readers, other new features include the inclusion of travel updates at the top of the website; new and improved local information pages including jobs & an events calendar; national news feed from Sky News; automation of certain article aspects to improve publishing speeds and an ‘Updated’ notice on breaking news stories so you can see when a story has been updated.
Darren Toogood, Editor of Island Echo, said:
“The new website should deliver an even greater service to our readers who we know enjoy our unique 24/7 approach to Island news and continue to support us as we head towards our 3 year anniversary.
“We are further expanding on Island Echo’s success with an emphasis being made on making the website even more reliable and faster. A lot of work has taken place behind the scenes to improve the speed in which stories are published which should reduce mobile publishing times by over 3 minutes.
“Although the website improvement has resulted in some temporary downtime over the past 6 days, I hope that you will agree that the downtime is outweighed by the enhanced site now available across all platforms.
“The introduction of our Snapchat service is just another feature that makes Island Echo unique. Having changed the way news is reported on the Isle of Wight over the past 2 years, we are proud to be leading the way in delivering in-depth news as it happens as we head into the New Year.
“Keep an eye out for the site’s Christmas makeover very soon, as well as our support for this year’s THINK! drink-drive campaign”.
