Residents in East Cowes have spotted a new addition to East Cowes Wall Art. A rather ‘supurrb’ image of a marmalade ginger cat gazing at a bumblebee has sprung up on the wall of Weaver Brothers independent funeral directors’ new premises on Link Road.
Renowned artist Tony Trowbridge was commissioned by Weaver Brothers Ltd Independent Funeral Directors to spray paint this ‘pawtrait’ onto their new office external wall. Why a cat you might ask? Well a cat image was chosen simply because the Weaver family love cats.
The image has gone viral locally with people asking if the cat has a name – so a ‘Name the Cat’ competition has been launched. Names can be submitted online at Weaver Bros Ltd Facebook Page. Deadline for entries is midnight on 31st December 2019.
Due to the overwhelming response, it has been decided that the name should be chosen by the Island people, so the 2 most popular names will put to a voting poll. The name with the most votes will win, and artist Tony Trowbridge will paint the winning name onto the mural. Weaver Bros Ltd will donate a cat climbing tower to The Cats Protection along with a donation to another cat-based island charity.
Competition Rules
• The competition is open to all. There is no minimum age however entrants under the age of 18 must insert contact details of a parent or guardian when entering.
• Entry will only be accepted online at Weaver Bros Ltd Facebook Page and those already submitted previously on Cllr.Karl Love-East Cowes Facebook Page
• Entries must be made by the closing date and time which is midnight on the 31st December 2019. Any entries after this date will be invalid and will not be entered into the competition.
• The 2 most popular names will be put to online vote poll on Weaver Brothers Ltd Facebook Page which will run for 7 days. The name with the most votes will be the winning cat’s name
• Once the poll has finished, all entries received online will be awarded in accordance with the ‘laws of chance’ and put into a hat. One person will be picked at random by an independent person and will receive an ‘Emma Bridgewater personalised pussycat ½ pint mug’ with their Christian name. The winner will be notified within 7 days. There is no cash prize alternative.
• Weaver Bros Ltd reserves the right to modify, cancel and terminate the competition in whole or in parts at its sole discretion if it believes the competition is not capable of being conducted as specified in these terms and conditions or in the event of a cause that is beyond reasonable control.
• Weaver Bros Ltd will donate a cat climbing tree (to the value of £50.00) to the Isle of Wight Cats Protection and also to another cat related Isle of Wight charity.
