A widow at the age of just 53, Mary Kershaw has taken the positive action of setting up a new bereavement group called ‘Barry’s Club’, which will meet at Wroxall’s Donkey Sanctuary for the first time on 19th September.
The group, named after her late husband who died from cancer aged 58, will meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month, from 14:00 to 16:00. Thanks to the generosity of the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, this meeting will take place in the upstairs area of the new café barn.
Mary explains:
“Since being widowed 2 years ago at the age of 53, I have realised there is a need for an informal bereavement group for people of working age that meets during the weekends.
“I, and others in similar circumstances, have found the routine of the working week gives us structure to our drastically disrupted lives, but a lot of people find weekends and cooking for 1 particularly hard and this is where Barry’s Club comes in, which I hope can bring something positive out of Barry’s death from cancer at 58.
“There will be no pressure to talk about your loss, but I have found it helps just being with people in similar circumstances, who understand the heartache and all the other, sometimes unforeseen, issues”.
