Smallbrook Lane in Ryde is to be closed in both directions from today (Monday) to enable the first stage of utility work as part of the Smallbrook Roundabout safety improvements.
Motorists will have to divert via Green Lane to Brading – or into Ryde Town – to bypass the closure, which will be in force for the next week.
The road will re-open before closing again for a 2-week period on Monday 22nd November.
There is some good news for motorists though as Great Preston Road has now fully re-opened in both directions.
Works at Smallbrook Junction are to continue for the next 6 months until April 2022. The busy roundabout will be completely transformed with a realignment of the roundabout itself, as well as the introduction of a 30mph speed limit, new street lighting and anti-skid strips.
Have they photoshoped the workers into the picture? I never see anybody working there.
That guy in hi viz standing up doesnt have a shadow by his right foot, that look like a bit of it is missing – and that doesn’t really look like he is holding on to the fence – just like something used to be in his left hand.
why do they always take so long, in any new road layout just like St Gorges Way Newport , St Marys roundabout,and not made a blind bit of diference to the traffic conjestion at Coppins bridge more disruption and more road closure more Carbon Emision added to this planet,maybe island Road, employers are all sick with Covid 19.?

Into a, state of perpetual flux at the thought of how to use it! As you rightly stated it is part of the back door methods of the Planning dept on The Island for the totally unwanted and unnecessary and unsustainable development, unless your a ” development company” who thinks they know how Islanders think, and its not “Pink”!!!!!
paint a dot in the middle of the road, and then call it a roundabout confuses motorist then they sit at the roundabout to see who will make the first move ,.instead of give way on your right to all road users
For God sake just get workers there and get on with it should b done in 6 weeks not 6 month’s must be the slowest work IV seen
As it’s in an out of the way location they could be working on it in shift patterns 24 hours a day.
Island Roads keep doing road alterations and road digging up, how about sorting out the top end of Atherley Road from the end of Wilton Park Road to the Railway station entrance in Shanklin, it’s needed to be done for at least 3 plus years. Someone’s going to trip up crossing that road soon, it’s a disgrace, and that’s the first thing people see when they walk out of the station, especially now the trains are running again. And there’ll soon be car owners putting claims into the Council for damage to their tyres and suspension….Come on… it’s been way too long now
