A large oil spill has been reported in Ventnor this morning (Tuesday), posing a risk to motorists.
Island Roads have been made aware of the hazard at the junction of Gills Cliff Road and Whitwell Road.
Small patches of oil can also be seen on Whitwell Road itself.
Local residents have taken to social media to warn motorists of the danger and to urge caution.

Wait until UKOG start drilling at Arreton. At least the daily crashes will have ‘another’ excuse to put on the insurance claim.
Are you sure the drilling in Arreton isn’t a front for the start of the tunnel to the big island??
It runs from the gills cliff junction to Warbens, quite bad in places.
What does the tunnel or the oil slick?
I don’t know if it’s connected, but there is a trail of oil/fuel along North Road in Shanklin which continues along Regent Street!
We can only hope it is from the sump of some boy racer, and that the engine is about to seize up for good.
Hope this is cleaned up before yet more accidents on our roads.
