UPDATED: A motorcyclist has been seriously injured following a two-vehicle road traffic collision in East Cowes last night (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to the junction of Victoria Grove and Vectis Road at 20:50 following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a car.
Island Echo understands the motorcyclist was thrown from their bike before hitting a nearby wall.
Coastguard Rescue 104 performed a patient medivac to Southampton General Hospital at 01:30 this morning, however it is currently unclear if this was in relation to the injured motorcyclist.
The road remained closed for over 5 hours, finally reopening at 02:15 this morning.
UPDATED: It is understood the motorcycle rider’s helmet and shoes were found in a nearby garden following the collision, indicating the force of the impact.
Island Echo understands the rider is suffering life-threatening injuries.
UPDATED MONDAY: It has been confirmed by Police that a 20-year-old rider has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital where he remains in a critical condition, after the 125cc motorbike he was riding collided with a stationary blue Volkswagen Sharan.
Island Echo understand the individual had visited the near by Prince of Wales pub shortly before the collision.
