Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are in attendance at the junction of New Road and the High Street alongside Police from the Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit.
The extent of the motorcycle rider’s injuries is currently unknown, however they are not thought to be life threatening.
Witnesses have described the incident, which took place at around 17:05 (as first reported by Island Echo), as a low-speed collision.
UPDATE @ 17:45 – Traffic remains congested this evening, with emergency services still in attendance at the scene in Wootton High Street. Lushington Hill is said to be at a standstill.
Temporary traffic lights on Binstead Hill are adding to the congestion between Ryde and Newport. Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
Southern Vectis Routes 4 and 9 are suffering delays of around 20 minutes as a result.
UPDATE @ 18:34 – The incident has now been cleared and traffic is beginning to flow once again.
The motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
