UPDATED: MOTORCYCLE AND VAN INVOLVED IN SERIOUS CRASH ON NEWPORT’S LONG LANE

Emergency services are responding to a serious road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a van on Long Lane in Newport this evening (Sunday). The incident occurred at just gone 17:00, with Police and ambulance crews responding. Island Echo understands that the van was turning into a lane at the time of the crash, with the motorcycle failing to come to a stop in time – smashing into the side of the vehicle. It’s thought a female rider has sustained leg injuries. UPDATE @ 18:00 – The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled to the scene, due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the motorcycle rider. Flying medics have landed in a field off Long Lane and are now assessing the casualty. UPDATE @ 18:36 – The motorcyclist has been conveyed by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital. Hard road closures are now in place between Robin Hill Roundabout and Staplers Road as investigations get underway. UPDATE @ 22:30 – Long Lane has now reopened in both directions following a positive condition update from the hospital.
