Further details about Tesco’s plans for the takeover of the Co-Operative store in Freshwater have been revealed, including opening times and confirmation of a Click + Collect service.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a major shakeup of the West Wight’s supermarket scene is set to take place this Autumn as Freshwater’s Co-Operative superstore is to be sold to Tesco.
It’s now known that the refreshed store will be open from 07:00-22:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00-16:00 on Sunday. Tesco’s 5th store on the Island will include a bakery and a Post Office, with an external cashpoint retained and electric vehicle charging points too.
Shoppers will be pleased to hear that Tesco’s Click + Collect will be made available to those in the West Wight. 3 parking bays will be dedicated to the service, with customers scanning a QR code upon arrival to call for their shopping to be brought out to the car.
Opening in 2015, the Afton Road superstore replaced the former shop just across the road, which is now the home of Rapanui. At the time it was Southern Co-Operative’s flagship store.
Tesco currently operates an Extra store in Ryde and 3 Express stores in Wootton, Lake and Ventnor. It is anticipated that the new Freshwater store will sit somewhere between the 2.
Any idea what date it will actually open?
October
I know there isn’t the space but I was hoping for a petrol station
Great looking forward to it. Every time I go into the Co-Op I feel I am being ripped off. Don’t mind paying extra for local goods though.
just like to say…although I don’t live in Freshwater I do have a relative who is elderly living there.
A decent clothes shop would be such a bonus, I’m just saying because sometimes Tesco does sell clothes.
