MILE-LONG QUEUES AT DOWNEND OWING TO TEMPORARY TRAFFIC LIGHTS

Motorists are facing significant delays when travelling through the Downend area this morning (Thursday) due to the erection of temporary traffic lights following a road traffic collision. 3-way lights have been established at the Hare and Hounds junction to act as a replacement for the permanent set. Island Echo understands that a road traffic collision on Tuesday night led to the main control box being damaged, rendering the lights inoperational. Traffic was free-flowing throughout yesterday but overnight Island Roads decided to install temporary lights, which is leading to queues over 1 mile for those heading over The Downs towards Newport. There are also delays for those travelling from the North or South, to and from Arreton.
