A man who was more than twice the drink-drive limit whilst grabbing a midnight snack from McDonald’s in Ryde has been banned from the roads for 21 months.
36-year-old Hadleigh Carkeet, of Well Street in Ryde, was reported to Police during the early hours of 3rd May this year as staff at McDonald’s suspected him to be in drink whilst transiting through the drive-thru at Brading Road, Ryde.
The Isle of Wight Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday how the local boatbuilder smelt strongly of alcohol when PC Allen arrived at the McDonalds car park and approached Hadleigh’s white BMW 1-Series following the tip-off from staff.
In his defence, little could be said other than Hadleigh – who pleaded guilty to the offence of drink driving – had held a clean licence since the age of 17.
Magistrates handed Carkeet a 21-month driving ban and ordered him to pay a £392 fine with £85 costs and a £39 surcharge.
