The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds across the Isle of Wight and the South Coast on Saturday.
An intense low pressure system is expected to bring a swathe of strong southwesterly winds between 04:00 and 23:59.
Gusts exceeding 50mph are expected widely, with gusts of around 70mph along exposed coastal areas. These are expected to coincide with high tides, leading to locally dangerous conditions.
Forecasters say there is potential for flooding of properties.
Transport disruption is likely, with delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport. Short term loss of power and other services is also possible.
