The Isle of Wight has recorded a staggering 459 daily cases of COVID-19, according to the latest Government figures.
The coronavirus dashboard says that a further 459 positive cases have been identified amongst those living on the Island, taking the pandemic total locally to 2,446.
In the past 7 days alone a massive 1,043 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed on the Island taking the rate of cases to 426.7 per 100,000 population. On 9th December this number was just 11.3 – one of the lowest rates in the entire country.
The huge increase certainly raises questions as to whether the data is entirely accurate – perhaps a mistype or a lag in data – but the information is taken from the Government’s official website.

Helped along, no doubt, by the many selfish idiots who came over here to get away from virus “hot -spots on the mainland.
Yep, thanks Wightlink and Red funnel you’ve made your money, so why are you not in prison??
You transported teir 4 to teir 1 knowing thay could be breaking the law! Thanks!!
Lol
In the most recent data, there are no excess deaths, in a week in which thousands of deaths attributed to covid19 were reported. Furthermore London has been flat since spring (other than heatwave deaths). SAGE must publicly explain this. I know what I think explains it.We are being played…
You are correct as normal, but guess what? The mogadons will not listen or even be bothered to find out if you are lying or telling the truth! Its laughable if it wasnt so serious. I never on my wildest dreams would have thought how native the public could be,but I suppose nothing should shock us these days.
Oh sorry about the mis- spelling (naive) and the grammar (on, should be in) trying to multi task, doh!
It’s a great pity that trips to hospitals couldn’t be arranged for morons like yourself to see exactly how things really are. No doubt though, that you’d say it was all “staged” for your visit. I suspect you’re also one of those who believe that the earth is flat and all the other “loony” theories out there. Have a word with yourself.
No,there is a virus, the same as a flu virus, infact back in march ,covid was down graded to an influenza. But! For the media and the government to act is though it’s the black death, is just dam right wrong!!
What do you mean downgraded to an influenza? what a load of rubbish, influenza is also a serious virus.
May I introduce you to H7N9 an influenza virus with zootonic capacity, an influenza that you seem to think is so harmless that to be classed as an influenza is a downgrade! well H7N9 is an influenza, one with a 30% mortality rate, luckily the poor birds are mostly wiped out but this is not some tame flu and this is only one example of many dangerous influenza viruses.
Coronavirus is not an influenza and can never be downgraded or changed to one it is of the corona family which makes up a wide range of viruses from the common cold, SARS and MERS all with different and varying mortality rates but they are not influenza just like influenza is not Ebola! stop talking rubbish and educate yourself!

I’m only telling you what happen on the government website . Go look at the website yourself. You need to get your facts right before opening your gob!
The families of the 75,124 who have died would disagree. And you need to remember that only a 3rd of patients admitted to hospital die. So that is 150,000+ who will now have long term affects of having covid bad. And also 150,000+ people what have used up bed space in the NHS stretching it to braking point. And your end game? To remove all restrictions? NHS would be in meltdown. They would be burying the bodies in the playing fields because they could not burn them quick enough, just as they have been in the US.
As it stands if you test positive (with the faulty PCR test) and die within 28 days , it is marked down as a covid death and you cannot change the death certificate, even if you know cause of death was not covid.
It is nothing but propaganda !
Real Islander, very interesting. What do you think is the aim of the propaganda? Millions unemployed, thousands dying or very sick, children’s education put at risk, the economy trashed, and lives disrupted it must be quite an aim!¬
Wow echo! Quick to sensor things that go against the narrative! Waste of time posting.
Do all of us a favour then and dont post your covidiot comments
Oh and sheep like you can? Very leftie!
Your probably still a member of CND commonly known as Cranks Nutters and Drop outs, what hat do you wear or do you have all 3 you covidiot.
I always wondered why the red squirrel nearly went extinct! Perhaps the grey squirrel couldn’t put up with the bs coming out of red,so sat on him and squash him! Lol
It was because of invaders from another area coming and spreading virus, in that case, squirrel pox. A bit like so many human invaders coming and spreading virus here.
We must not upset the snowflakes, they’ll need counseling on the NHS..
COVID deniers can easily give substance to their belief by registering a ‘Statement of advance Intent’ declining medical intervention in the event they catch COVID 19. Keep the letter handy so that when you lie gasping for breath, you can pass it to the paramedics, at the same time as you tell them to go away.
perhaps someone should ” CENSOR ” you
Lol! If you only knew! Lol
If you cut the tongue from a man, it is not because you fear the man, it is because you fear what the man has to say.
No wonder the cases are spiking, the Uk publics patience is wearing thin and people simply don’t care anymore and we ask the question – why should I follow these restrictions?
You should keep that to yourself, you’ll upset the nutters here. And believe me there are lots of em!
It was good to see the government did NOTHING to help protect this Island when we were Tier 1, from the Tier 3 and 4 people coming over, also those that went xmas shopping over in Portsmouth and Southampton… putting Island into Tier 4 .. (Thank you people..) NOW no one supposed to leave the Island, many ferries NOW cancelled..
Thank you Government !!
Dear island echo, would you please stop deleting earlier posts that had already been “approved “? Thank-you, in advance.
Why,we’re all those visitors aloud to come here ? The Isles of Scilly wouldn’t let them off the ferries.
Should of all been in lockdown before Christmas that would of stopped the virus spreaders coming to our tier one lovely clean Island.
All the DFLS pretend their holiday homes on the island are their main homes so they don’t pay as much council tax on the house in London.
How come so many young people are going around mask free? How come so many of them can claim they are “exempt”? One young woman travelling on the bus never wears one, looks to be entirely healthy and not mentally ill, but always has a face full of makeup, maybe not wanting to smudge your makeup is one reason to claim you are “exempt”?
Another young woman never wears one, also talks loudly on her mobile phone through most of the half hour bus journey, so spreading her breath all over the bus.
Those of us who are vulnerable are wearing a mask, so protecting them from any germs we may have, but they are putting us at risk by their cavalier and uncaring attitude.
I have asthma and anxiety, and many of these young people are claiming asthma because they smoke, but if I can wear a mask despite having it too, then so can they!
There should be no exceptions, full stop. They are just flouting the softness of this exempt rule. It should be mandatory for everyone to wear a mask on public transport and in shops, no exceptions. And people who wear masks with their noses poking out over the top should also be classed almost as bad as those not wearing one at all.
Not just the ‘young people’… just saying
I know it’s not just young people, but there does seem to be a higher number of young people, and nearly all of them seem perfectly able and healthy. There are certainly a high number of drug and alcohol abusers of all ages too.
It sounds like you travel on the same bus as me! I was given quite a lot of abuse at the start of all of this, when I dared to tell certain passengers the correct way of wearing a face covering. The drivers didn’t seem willing to tell them to wear them correctly so I rang “Covid” Vectis’ offices in Newport to complain. (Not something I would do, normally). Within a couple of weeks of my phone call, the announcements about wearing a face covering appeared. This doesn’t seem to have made much difference to the type of passengers you are talking about, though-sadly.
You surprise me you seem just the type of raving lunatic that’s spends all day complaining
People tend to surmise what happened over the Xmas period but I know someone personally who had a mainland visitor stay for a wk over the period. Since then they’ve had a private tutor visit for an hr. Today they had two house cleaners working as usual. They’re breaking the “no mixing indoors “ rule. They are clever people, both professionals. Maybe they think the rules don’t apply to clever people but they are there for a reason.
Name and shame them.
My daughter has just finished work in an East Sussex hospital administering the vaccine in between caring for covid patients. She has not had a day off since 22 Dec because it is now much much worse than the previous wave. The staff are beside themselves with stress and worry over how bad this is going to get. That is what awaits us on the Island because of some people’s selfish pub, party and eat out mentality.
I know of 9 mainland friends with Island roots who came home for Xmas. All have since been shown to have had Covid.
This is my e-mail to David Stewart County Council Leader, followed by his response.
Dear Sir,
I am livid at the council’s ineffective response to the crisis that we find ourselves in.
A week or so ago when we were in tier 1 almost everyone I know was shouting at the television to
STOP THE FERRIES.
This would have protected Islanders, but like your useless Tory Party, the council’s response is too late and too little.
Lives will be lost thanks to this.
AND THIS IS HIS REPLY
Thank you for your e mail the contents of which I have noted.
I do not intend to respond to further e mails which are abusive- but for your information the IW council does not have legal powers to stop ferries.
Can I also remind you of the key workers postal workers general workers and essential food suppliers who need to travel to and from the Island.
There is also the matter of personal responsibility to take into account.
Regards
Dave Stewart – Leader
