An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article following an incident in Newport late last night (Sunday).
Police were called to Whitepit Lane at 21:52 following reports that a brick had been thrown through the window of a property, believed to be occupied by an elderly woman.
According to Police, a man ran out of the woman’s address with a bladed article and an altercation began with an unknown person, who is thought to have thrown the brick.
Multiple Police units responded to the scene and an 18-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and 1 count of using threatening and abusive behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He remains in custody at this time.

It’s about time that maximum sentences were handed down on the Island for any case involving a weapon.
The way sentencing is issued through our weak courts, he will probably get compensation for Police harassment. The Courts need to hand down sever sentencing; if we don’t have enough prisons build them. The Courts are not supporting the Police..
Our judicial system needs an update ,police do a fantastic job and our antiquated system let’s them down !!!!
About time parliament reviewed our unjust laws and then sentences could fit the crime.
Far too many far lefties interfering with what’s right, the snowflakes that do nothing but defend lowlife are making our lives a missery..
You will see proof when my comment is voted down…
Impossible to comment. It’s not at all clear what took place.
I thought the same, seems poorly written. Seems the old girl got caught in the cross fire. Hope shes OK.
They did not say he attacked the elderly lady he came out of her house to confront the person who through the brick .might be over excessive but what happened to the person who caused the damage. Nothing he got away.
Protecting his nan , you lot know nothing
Very poor reporting of this story. Sounds like someone protecting a loved one. Hope lady is OK and the case is dealt with sensibly.
Multiple Police units attended on a Sunday evening? I didn’t know there were three on duty, let alone available.
What a pathetic and childish comment. Why don’t you concentrate on trying to say something
interesting
You could give it a try too!!
What happened about the person who threw the brick, that’s not clear. Seems to me that person should have been arrested too.
Looks like he go away
The reporting doesn’t make a lot of sense
