Emergency services are this morning working to recover a body from the foot of cliffs at Alum Bay.
Yarmouth RNLI, the Needles and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue teams and Police are on the scene near to the Needles Battery.
Southern Vectis’ open top tour is not serving the battery due to the incident, as Police have closed the road, however the service is serving The Needles Pleasure Park.
UPDATE @ 11:50 – It has now been confirmed that crews have recovered a body from Alum Bay.
Island Echo understands that the deceased is a 29-year-old male, however formal identification is yet to take place.
Next of kin have been informed.
UPDATE @ 13:30 – The National Police Air Service helicopter was tasked at 10:00 this morning to assist Coastguard Rescue with the search of a missing man at The Needles.
UPDATE FRIDAY -The deceased has today been named as Daniel Dwight, 29, of Terrace Road, Newport.
Following a concerning Facebook message, Mr Dwight’s family reported him missing to Police.
A car belonging to Mr Dwight was discovered in a car park at the Needles Pleasure Park which sparked a Coastguard search.
At 10:20, Mr Dwight’s body was located at the foot of the cliff.
A post mortem examination has revealed he died from multiple traumatic injuries.
