UPDATED: Police have cordoned off a section of Newport Town centre this morning (Monday) due to a person located on the roof of a building.
Its understood a man has taken position above a row of shops stretching from Starbucks to HSBC.
St James’ Street has been closed between McDonalds and Pyle Street as officers deal with the incident.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 23:30.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have an aerial ladder platform on scene and are standing by.
A helicopter was circling the town a short while ago also.
UPDATE – 1 male has been detained and taken into custody by Police.
All roads have now reopened in the area.
Today’s incident is the latest in a series of similar events, as previously reported.
