The disruption started with the cancellation of the 07:15 sailing from Southampton earlier this morning, followed by the cancellation of the 09:00 sailing from East Cowes which caused lengthy queues throughout the town.
With engineers unable to fix the generator fault, the 10:30 sailing from Southampton has also been cancelled, as well as the 12:00 sailing from East Cowes. Traffic remains heavy in East Cowes and is currently backed up to the fire station on York Avenue.
Island Echo understands one of the company’s three ferries is currently in dry dock, leaving just one ferry in service until the mechanical breakdown can be fixed.
The hi-speed Red Jet service remains unaffected and foot passengers are being advised to use this service as an alternative.
UPDATE @ 12:35 – Red Funnel advise that the 13:30 sailing from East Cowes will be delayed by around 15 minutes. Those travelling with the cross-Solent company are asked to check in as normal to reduce delays.
