A man who was clocked by Wightlink staff as being under the influence of drink or drugs was later stopped by Police in Wootton, where he tested positive for drug driving, a court has heard.
24-year-old Tony Rusher, of Eversley Road in Reading, travelled to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth on 2nd September this year.
Whilst on board the Wightlink ferry, staff called Police owing to concerns about his behaviour and the fact he was about to get into a vehicle.
Police responded and located Rusher in his Citroen Nemo at Tesco Express in Wootton. He was stopped and asked to provide a roadside breath test – which he passed – and a roadside drugs wipe, which indicated positive for cocaine.
Rusher was arrested and taken into custody where bloods were taken. The results later revealed that he had BZE in his system, having consumed cocaine, and and Ketamine. The level of BZE and Ketamine recorded in his system was 8x the prescribed limit for both drugs.
He was also found to have Ketamine – a Class B drug – in his possession.
Lauren McConnell, prosecuting, told the court that Rusher had numerous previous convictions including for drug driving in 2020 and 2021, as well as driving whilst unfit and driving whilst disqualified. She explained that the 24-year-old is on a suspended sentence.
Magistrates decided to adjourn the case for a pre-sentence report to be compiled, after Rusher admitted his guilt, with the matter now due to be heard at Reading Magistrates Court on 25th February.
An interim driving ban has been imposed.
Let’s hope they catch local Caulkheads who drive
under the influence of drugs.
The Ferry Companies need to look out for them too.
Where would we be without your insightful pearls of wisdom?
In the state the island is currently in.
So your silly comments and constant use of the word numpty are worthless then
An interim driving ban has been imposed. Wow, does the magistrate really think that will stop him from driving. I bet the cheeky sod drove home after that? This scum has had numerous previous convictions and is still only 24 years of age. Doesn’t that tell you something? He will drive when he wants and there is not a law in this land to stop him. If it was down to me, I would cut his hands off, (for a start). Happy New Year everyone. Lets make it a safe one.
