UPDATED: One of the busiest roads on the Isle of Wight is to close from 18:30 tonight (Monday) to allow a crane to lift a sewerage treatment plant over a property and into a back garden.
Arreton Street, Arreton – the main road between Sandown and Newport – will be closed from the junction of Downend Road to the junction of Heasley Lane to allow for the emergency sewerage treatment plant apparatus replacement.
It is unknown how long the road will be closed for, but reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises whilst the road is closed.
Motorists will face lengthy diversions either via The Downs to Brading, or through Godshill to Shanklin/Apse Heath. Those travelling in the area are reminded that Newchurch remains closed.
UPDATE @ 16:50 – Island Roads have confirmed that the works have been postponed until tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the current weather conditions.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – The work has been completed and the road is open as normal.
