LOCKDOWN TO START BEING EASED FROM TOMORROW – HERE’S EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

ISLANDERS CAN SEE THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY AGAIN FROM MONDAY
Share on FacebookShare on X

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that the lockdown restrictions imposed on the Isle of Wight and the rest of the country will start to be eased from tomorrow (Monday), but shops and schools won’t re-open before June.

In a special broadcast to the nation from Downing Street, Mr Johnson has this evening confirmed a number of changes to the restrictions currently in place, as well as laying out the plan for recovery over the next 2 months.

Key points raised this evening include that:

Article continues below this advertisement
  • Anyone who can’t work from home, such as construction and manufacturing, should go to work from tomorrow but avoiding public transport if possible
  • Unlimited amounts of exercise allowed from Wednesday, including driving to locations, sunbathing and playing sports with family members of the same household e.g swimming, fishing and golf
  • Increased fines for those who break the rules
  • Quarantine on people entering the country by air soon to be implemented
  • Social distancing measures must continue (2m from people outside of your household)

Boris has laid out the route map for re-opening the country, although there has been no mention of when family and friends will be allowed to mingle once again.

The next step in the route map is the phased re-opening of shops and the re-introduction of primary school pupils to schools from 1st June at the earliest, starting with Years R, 1 and 6. Secondary school students will likely not be back in school before the summer break.

Step 3 – 1st July at the earliest and subject to scientific advice – will be the re-opening of at least some of the hospitality establishments and public places, such as restaurants and cinemas.

Further details are to be revealed in Parliament tomorrow (Monday).

The ‘stay at home’ message that has become all so familiar with households across the country has been officially dropped. Instead, citizens are being urged to ‘stay alert, control the virus and save lives’.

Isle of Wight residents are still being urged to download the NHS’ contact tracing app, which has been launched locally for an exclusive trial. You can download the app here.

There were lots of things he didn’t mention but he did say more detail will come tomorrow.

Many things like, for example, allowing garden centres to reopen, will require a change in the law and that will need parliamentary assent.

For now I think it’s a case of watch this space.

It’s good to see that a more pragmatic approach is being taken with the guidance on exercise so that it is now based on reducing risk of infection rather than just rigidly locking people up.

Hopefully people will behave responsibly and not betray the trust he has put in us.

Here’s their response when I asked them to change the headline !!!

Our article headline clearly states that lockdown will be eased ‘from tomorrow’, which means that changes will take place from Monday.

Within the article, it clearly states that some changes will be coming into force from Wednesday.

Our article is in no way dangerously misleading.

Regards,

Fret not all those who have to go back to work, soon cases likely to soar again, so could have much of the Summer off yet.

Always thought as soon as all UK hospitals were up to speed, then we would be forced back to work, as then as we begin to fall ill, one by one, the hospital should find enough beds so we don’t die at home, the doing of such of course making our Government look draconian.

So long as we pass away out of sight, and just a daily rising tally of numbers, not names, we are then not such a burden to the Tory party, nor to the reputation of the UK and it’s wonderful health service workers.

Don’t become complacent at work, avoid all you can, masks, gels, and distancing is our ONLY hope now, will be a very very long winter this year and beyond.

The headline seems ok to me – it says that the government is STARTING to ease the lockdown which is exactly what was announced.

“Lockdown to start being eased tomorrow!” 100% factually correct. Not at all misleading.
Ease. Verb.
move carefully or gradually.
“I eased down the slope with care”
People in construction and other businesses which can maintain social distance and put safety measures in place can be at work TODAY as part of the easing then as we “ease” of the restrictions more movement allowed Wednesday. I see no problem in this article.
What possible reason do you have to down vote the Island echos response?
I’m intrigued?

At no point did he say lockdown was over or being reduced. This is a very misleading headline. This needs to be written very carefully until he starts giving specifics after his discussion with parliament tomorrow and beyond. I agree with people above the way you’ve written this people will think it’s all over

We have not stated that lockdown is over, but it has been announced and is reported correctly that lockdown is being eased.

The removal of restrictions previously imposed is an easing. Yes, it is only small at the moment but it is an easing none the less.

You’re clearly disregarding the fact that there are a lot of numbsculls who cannot differentiate between eased and removed. One whiff of a mention of easing anything and they immediately take it that it’s all over and they can go out and about as normal. That’s the nature of people or bored, unintelligent ones anyhow! There are already many that are breaking the rules all the time anyway so they’ll be out as of tomorrow wait and see. I am afraid I can tell you. I don’t want to be in this situation any longer than the next person but I’m sure as hell not letting my guard down yet and no one should. Please take into account thick idiots reading this as wahoo! It’s all over we can go to the beach and swim and sunbathe like nothings happened- you’ve opened a can of worms. You clean up the mess you’ve made.
The poor staff in the hospital are risking their lives for these idiots already, why should they you tell me? It’s unfair. Are the po,ice here go into arrest people? I don’t think so. Chaos will reign this week. Mark my words.

The idiots amongst us have been largely ignoring the lock down restrictions anyway and will continue to do as they want regardless, so maybe it’s time to let those amongst us who behave responsibly, implement the easement measures and see how we fare.

Traffic has been up for the last couple of weeks, and all the numbskulls i see in Morrisons treating as a day out astounds me. As you say chaos will reign. i’m looking out of my window now in Newport road lake, traffic is virtually back to pre-covide levels.

Doug, true work is less stress than being at home, especially if you have children. Life was so much easier when others looked after them for most of the week

What was the point of the app trial if the whole of England can sit in parks all day go on beaches and basically just wonder around aimlessly

read the european union document…

Contact tracing: public health management of persons, including healthcare workers, having had contact with COVID-19 cases in the European Union – second update 8 April 2020

extract…

For countries that have had enforced strict physical distancing measures for a period of time in order to attempt to interrupt the chain of transmission of the virus, case finding measures, including contact tracing, are a priority once the physical distancing measures are lifted, in order to reduce the risk of further escalation.

…………

The app trial is underway, but full contact tracing is only going to be up and running in accordance with the above.

The app exists to reduce the risks involved in day to day social contacts and will enable greater freedom if it is a success.

It is just one of many tools that will be needed if we are to beat this virus.

One thing we should all bear in mind is that our role as the trial location is to help to identify any issues and possible improvements. We are not being used as guinea pigs, just unpaid software testers.

As such we should be doing all we can to test this app thoroughly and highlight any and all problems it may have.

I hear it as you can go out now as much as you want , keep the safe distance , imagine that a load of ppl drive to Ryde sea front parked side by side , get out their cars for a stroll, and trying to keep 2 meters apart ,ok if only a few hundred maybe but imagine a couple of thousand ppl descending

I’ve contacted them about the misleading headline and quickly had a reply, not a very concerned Editor !!

Here, have a read of the island Echo’s reply which I’ve copied and pasted here for you.

Our article headline clearly states that lockdown will be eased ‘from tomorrow’, which means that changes will take place from Monday.

Within the article, it clearly states that some changes will be coming into force from Wednesday.

Our article is in no way dangerously misleading.

Regards,

EASE DEFINITION
move carefully or gradually.
“I eased down the slope with care”
Your clearly all selective readers here some changes ARE taking place today you can go back to work on Monday then a gradual ease on restrictions more leisure time outside maintaining distancing from weds. Nowhere does it say “Lockdown over” or take your gran to a pub. Lockdown to start being EASED from Monday factually correct or not?

Boris, Raab, Hancock & Gove have so much blood on their hands. Yes a few deaths were to be inevitable amongst the most vulnerable in this pandemic, but over 30,000 recorded and possibly double that due to common sense failings a two year old could understand!!! Shameful at best, but of course as per usual lessons will be learned. Small comfort to all those families who have lost loved ones.

So having found out that there wasn’t the overwhelming numbers of intensive care admissions and overflowing temporary morgues after all, the government returns to original plan of managed herd immunity, with the thousands more deaths there are to come, coming at a nice manageable rate……..thanks for nothin’.

So, Who is now going to turn up at work tomorrow morning as Boris said those that cannot work from home can go back to work but must sustain social distancing! Have all the employers had notice to implement this – NO! All those parents now worrying what to do with their children because they have to go to work but no schools open yet as that part is in step 2! Still told to social distance from loved ones but you can go out for unlimited exercise, which includes sitting on a park bench or sunbathing and driving somewhere, but you can’t sit in your own garden with your loved ones!! Absolutely shambles!!!

Does this mean that the council will finally reopen Yaverland car park?

Closing it in the first place just resulted on people parking nearby.

Keeping it closed after the police guidelines said that you could drive to exercise was unjustified.

Now even the government advice makes it clear that you can drive to open spaces and use them (from Wednesday).

They surely should open all car parks ,so ppl can drive out to the seaside resorts for a stroll , if they don’t open up I hope they give a good valid reason even though the be going against what Borris has said , we will see ,,,, traffic jams prob punch ups etc etc as there is not enough room to social distance with large amount of the general public out and about

It’s that rather obvious that the elderly and vulnerable should continue to stay at home if at all possible, mixing with the masses rushing to the beaches etc would be pretty stupid. I think Boris missed pointing that out. Also lots of cars back on the road ‘competing’ with the nutters who have been using the empty roads as racetracks will cause accidents which in turn will make social distancing of recovery personnel, medics, police etc impossible. Stay safe everyone !!!

A note on the APP
I loaded it on my old iphone to test before i put it on my everyday phone
I the deleted it from my old phone but for some strange reason my battery is running down real fast so i fully charged it up and left it for 1 hr it dropped to 80% in that hr with nothing running what so ever
My trust in this app as gone

Lockdown is still in place everyone before more people say it’s misleading. People are now allowed out for exercise and can now sit on a bench or on the beach with the stated 2 metre distance as usual. Everyone just needs to be sensible, were in this for the long haul, the virus is not just going

Good sound advice the virus hasn’t gone anywhere! We are just being trusted a bit more to go out side for longer periods of time and to take the necessary precautions. Distancing hand washing self isolate if Ill, the APP etc.
Unfortunately I think we will obviously see a resurgence in covid cases as some may think “it’s all over as restrictions are slowly eased” but I imagine the plan is to keep the infection/death rate manageable within our hospitals and morgues.Yes it’s absolutely horrible to think that some who catch it will die. It’s just a horrible situation for everyone.
