Age UK Isle of Wight has announced the appointment of Rachel Mckernan as its new Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.
Rachel joins Age UK from Barnardo’s, where she has been Assistant Director Children’s Services for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight for 7 years.
Chair of Trustees, Sheila Evans, has welcomed Rachel to the team:
“On behalf of Trustees and staff of Age UK IW, I am delighted that Rachel has accepted our offer to lead the charity at this crucial time.
“The pandemic has been a particularly unsettling period for older island residents and Age UK IW must respond with innovative solutions to rebuild personal confidence and resilience going forward.
“Rachel has lived and worked on the island for many years and is familiar with the everyday obstacles that life here can present. Drawing upon her considerable energy and experience, we are enthusiastic about the opportunities that this will create in charting our future direction together.”
Rachel Mckernan has herself commented:

Rachel takes over from Jo Dare CEO, who has moved on into youth mental health services.
