Lifeguards have taken the decision to permanently red flag a section of Ryde beach as it has been deemed dangerous.
Beachgoers are being urged not to swim in the area surrounding the harbour, with red flags raised to indicate the danger.
According to the lifeguards, there are strong currents present and there is a sudden drop-off, which has resulted in several rescues both this season and last.
Those visiting the seaside should win between the red and yellow flags only.
This is very good to hear. I do hope they are payed attention to. I fear some may stroll right on past the most obvious of hazard signs. I’d be inclined to place one of those red flags every couple of metres around a wider perimeter than is necessary. Good to see the life guards back too. Invaluable.
