Police and paramedics are on scene in central Newport tonight (Tuesday) where a 2-car crash is blocking a main through road.
A white Mercedes and a purple Ford have come together on the junction of St James’ Street, Hunnyhill and Hunnycross Way, near to Sainsbury’s.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has 2 ambulance crews and an operational commander in attendance, although no serious injuries are thought to have been sustained.
With both vehicles damaged and needing recovery, St James’ Street is currently blocked in both directions.
Southern Vectis Route 1 buses are diverting via Coppins Bridge and Medina Way in both directions until further notice.
Recovery has been arranged and the road is expected to reopen within the hour.
UPDATE – The incident has now been cleared and the road has reopened.

Must admit it is a shit junction ..but yet again more shit driving..
Wouldn’t a roundabout be better option just asking
Please dont give those useless twats who do the road planning any ideas. What they work out with their Lego, does not work in real life.
Coppins bridge and the through lane from fairlee road, is a prime example. Held up by the flow down staplers, then backs up then no one can move not even onto the flyover. Add a bus or lorry, bingo grid lock.
That traffic light sellers dream at the top of the duel. Roundabout by Asda, sandown lane, two lanes, suddenly merges into one. The amount of vehicles you see park up after the outside lane driver has nowhere to go but pang into the inside lane car. The list goes on.
These retards should stick to sucking their thumbs and soiling themselves.
There are too many people on the island now for the roads and all the infrastructures. And all the building approved by our self serving council’s will make this so much worse
No worry giving the useless twats ideas.
They cannot install speed cameras or speed humps
to SLOW numpties down.
