A suspected drug dealer is in custody after leading Police on a dangerous pursuit through the streets of Ryde late last night (Friday) – with officers finding both Class A drugs and cash. Officers on proactive patrol caught sight of a silver BMW 1-Series being driven in a suspicious manner on Smallbrook Lane shortly after 22:30. The driver failed to stop for Police and a pursuit began, heading towards the St John’s area. In an attempt to evade capture, the driver turned into Daniel Street before attempting to hot foot it away from pursuing officers – but failed. A search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 was carried out and suspected Class A drugs and cash was found. The driver, a 29-year-old man of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of Class A and failing to stop a vehicle when directed by a constable. He has also been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at the current time.
