A woodland landslip has completely covered a road in East Cowes after weeks of movement.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the Esplanade in East Cowes was closed on Friday after part of the land slipped putting strain on the supporting wall. Overnight into Saturday, the slopped woodland moved even further and has now completely covered the carriageway reaching the seawall on the opposite side.
The road remains closed past the children’s play area.
It is understood the land has been on the move for several weeks, with the recent downpour of rain having finally loosened the earth enough to cause this large landslide.
Residents are warned to take care in the area as the area is still unstable.
This afternoon (Sunday), temporary traffic lights have been put in place on Middle Road near Calbourne due to a small landslip onto the carriageway.
