rtigodshillUPDATED: A female pedestrian has been hit by a lorry in Godshill this afternoon (Monday) as it was manoeuvring.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Newport Road at the junction with Whitwell Road just before 15:15, after it is believed a lorry turning towards Whitwell struck the woman who was walking on the pavement.

Witnesses have told Island Echo how the rear end of the trailer unit swung around as the lorry made its turn, hitting the woman and catching a child’s buggy.

The incident happened as children were being collected from the nearby Godshill Primary School, however no one else is believed to have been injured.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

UPDATED: Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have attended the scene and assessed the stricken woman, who has escaped injury but has been left shaken.

The ambulance crew have not conveyed anyone to hospital.

Traffic is flowing in the area.
