The Isle of Wight has been revealed as the UK’s sunniest staycation destination!
According to Met Office data, the Isle of Wight sees the most hours of sunshine each year with a whopping 1,923 hours recorded – narrowly beating Bognor Regis with 1,920.8 hours.
You might actually think you’ve made it abroad when visiting the Isle of Wight. With an average of 37 hours of sunshine per week, it far outstrips the UK average of 29 hours per week.
As the summer holidays fast approach, families up and down the country will be planning their annual getaway. This year it’s likely that a staycation will be on the agenda with travel abroad somewhat restricted due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will come as no surprise that the Isle of Wight is a top destination, with ferries and hotels already booking up fast.
The rain has firmly gone away and it is sunshine ahead for the rest of the week, this weekend and through into the early part of next week, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Other sunny locations include Eastbourne, Teignmouth, Cardiff, Norfolk Broads and Haworth.
