Following last weeks local elections results, UNISON South East say that the Island needs ‘leaders who can work together in the interests of the Isle of Wight’.
Over 100,000 members, from over 90 local branches, form UNISON South East. The union represent full-time and part-time staff who provide public services, although they may be employed in both the public and private sectors.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Reform UK secured a total of 19 Isle of Wight Council seats last week (Friday 8th May).
Despite their success, the party – headed up by Nigel Farage – fell just short of taking control of County Hall.
Elsewhere, 2 Conservative, 9 Independents, 1 Labour, 2 Green Party, 2 Island Independent Network and 4 Lib Dem councillors were also elected.
Commenting on the Isle of Wight election results, UNISON South East regional secretary Jo Galloway, said:
“There’s a clear responsibility for councillors who value the running of good local services to find common ground.
“Strong local leadership means focusing on the day-to-day services people rely on – from social care for the vulnerable to youth programmes – and listening to the staff who provide them.
“With devolution and the creation of a new combined authority for Hampshire and the Solent, the workforce and communities they support need responsible leaders who can work together in the interests of the Isle of Wight.”

We need people that can work together, says a union that will strike at the drop of a hat and bring chaos to our public services, Hypocrisy at its finest.
Good luck with that then. Prepare to be disappointed, but not surprised.
That’s a joke, they usually behave like a bunch of
children.
Goo Goo Ga Ga
I’m sick of my taxes paying government employees their fat, early pensions, long holiday allowances and huge sickness benefits, all backed by Unison, while the rest of us work our fingers to the bone, many on minimum wage and no perks. Two of my family work for the council and are raking it in while doing sweet FA.
