Islanders are being urged to plan ahead and check pharmacy opening times over the festive season, as services may be busier than usual due to ongoing NHS pressures.
Under the Pharmacy First scheme, local pharmacists can now treat a wide range of common conditions without the need for a GP appointment.
These include:
- Earache (1 to 17 years)
- Impetigo (1 year and over)
- Infected insect bites (1 year and over)
- Sinusitis (12 years and over)
- Shingles (18 years and over)
- Sore throat (5 years and over)
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 16–64
Residents are encouraged to check holiday pharmacy hours in advance, especially if travelling over the festive period. Up-to-date information can be found via NHS online services.

As well as pharmacies, Urgent Treatment Centres will continue to support non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, often with shorter waiting times than Emergency Departments.
