bembridgecoastguardtrailerculverAn inquest into the death of a Ryde man who died after plunging off Culver cliff in a car last Monday has been opened and adjourned today (Tuesday).

Ryde resident Keir Atkins, 33, died after suffering multiple traumatic injuries when he went over the cliff edge at Culver Cliff in his father’s car during the early hours of Monday morning.

As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services launched a search for the well-known Islander before his body was discovered at the foot of the cliff at around 05:00. Coastguard Rescue helicopter 104 from Lee-on-Solent was tasked to assist ground units before winching the deceased and a Coastguard Rescue Officer, who had been lowered over the cliff edge, to the top of the cliff.

Mr Atkins leaves behind his wife and three children as well as an extended family.
