The inaugural summer bank holiday tennis tournament 2022, played on the Aitken Courts at Northwood House and Park, Cowes attracted 20 enthusiastic entrants along with spectators who enjoyed 4 hours of keen competition.
The trophy winner of the American Tournament championship played on Bank Holiday Monday was Mohammed Alsheikh and the runner-up was Trevor Green.
A total of £220.00 in entry fees was raised for the Northwood House and Park Tennis Courts Fund to help maintain the 5 courts.
Competition organiser Graham Hinton said he hoped more competitions for people of all ages would be arranged for local residents and visitors.
Winner Mohammed Alsheikh the former Secretary General of the Saudi Tennis Federation said:
“During my regular visits to the Island I have enjoyed playing on these wonderful courts at Northwood House which are in such a beautiful setting. Tennis on the Aitken Courts is always a highlight during my visits here.”
Graham Hinton a former chairman of Aldersbrook Tennis Club said:
“It was amazing that we had three competitors who represented three generations from their family and it’s very encouraging to see such interest in the game and these courts.”
