coastguardsearchnightA missing person suffering with the effects of hypothermia was airlifted to hospital during the early hours of this morning (Friday) following a multi-agency search.

Police were alerted to a concern for welfare late last night and launched a search for the missing woman in the West Wight area. The assistance of The Needles Coastguard and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, as well as Freshwater Independent Lifeboat, was requested shortly before midnight.

coastguard104helicopternightstockA search was conducted from both the land and sea at Hanover Point off Military Road before the woman was located in a hypothermic condition at Compton just before 01:00.

Coastguard Rescue 104 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was tasked to airlift the woman from the remote location to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
