HOUSE FIRE IN SHANKLIN

imageUPDATED: Firefighters from Sandown, Shanklin and Newport are attending a house fire in Shanklin tonight (Friday).

Crews were called to Western Road in the town at 22:32 following reports of a property fire.

Three appliances are in attendance and the road has been closed.

UPDATE @ 23:25 – Two hose reels are being used to tackle the first-floor fire with 4 firefighters using breathing apparatus sets.

A thermal imaging camera is in use and the Incident Command Unit is now on scene.

Locals have seen smoke billowing from the property in the surrounding area.

The road remains closed and it likely to until at least the early hours.

imageUPDATE SATURDAY – Fire crews have extinguished the blaze, which has severely damaged the first floor of the property and threatened an adjoining home.

No one has been injured in the incident, the cause of which is still being investigated.

Crews left the scene shortly after 01:00. The road has reopened.

UPDATE SATURDAY @ 17:45 – Firefighters from Sandown and Newport have returned to the property at 31 Western Road this afternoon.

Two appliances responded back to the scene at around 16:00, however have since returned to station having dealt with smouldering.
