Police have cordoned off a house and garden in Branstone following what is understood to be the discovery of an injured woman inside the property.
Officers are maintaining a scene guard outside the semi-detached home on Branstone Farm Lane – the new housing development between Hale Common and Apse Heath – tonight (Tuesday).
Island Echo understands a female was found with significant injuries and remains in hospital in a critical, life-threatening condition, although Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are yet to issue a statement.
Investigations into the circumstances of the incident, which is thought to have occurred overnight on Sunday night into Monday morning, continue.
It is unclear at this time whether any other persons are being sought by Police, or if any arrests have been made.
It’s thought one line of enquiry being followed is that the woman sustained her injuries accidentally, but investigators are working to rule out any foul play.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Police have confirmed that a woman in her 30s was found at the address with a serious head injury late on Monday morning.
It’s said she remains in hospital in a critical condition.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says enquiries are ongoing in the local area to establish the circumstances surrounding how the woman became injured.
UPDATE THURSDAY – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that they do not believe there is any third-party involvement and have closed down the scene.
It is thought the woman, aged in her 30s, suffered a fall following a night out.

Her family are being supported by specialist officers. A file is set to be prepared for the coroner.
