A property in Binstead has been cordoned off after a man in his 40s was allegedly assaulted with a glass bottle last night (Tuesday). Police are maintaining a scene guard around a residential address on Beatrice Close this afternoon, where officers have been for the past 19 hours. It follows reports of an assault at an address on nearby Sherbourne Avenue – just around the corner from Beatrice Close – at 18:57 yesterday evening. The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised 2 crews to Sherbourne Avenue and rushed a casualty – now known to be a male in his 40s – to St Mary’s Hospital with a Police escort. It is alleged he had been assaulted with a glass bottle by someone known to him. His injuries are not life-threatening.
As part of the assault investigation, Police forced entry to an end-of-terrace property on Beatrice Close using cutting equipment. Door-to-door enquiries were subsequently conducted in the immediate area. Police say that no arrests have been made at this time and enquiries remain ongoing.
