UPDATED: Firefighters are tonight (Saturday) tackling a large house fire in Bembridge.
Crews from Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin are on scene at Egerton Road where the roof of a residential property has burst into flames. A total of 4 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit are all on scene.
It is understood a lightning strike is to blame for starting the fire.
The road has been cordoned off as crews tackle the blaze.
UPDATE @ 22:45 – The fire, which has caused significant damage to part of the roof of the detached property, has been brought under control by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
An ambulance and paramedic officer from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene and are thought to be checking over the occupants of the house – understood to be 2 males and 2 females.
Appliances are now starting to stand down from the incident, however several crews remain on scene and are likely to be in attendance for another couple of hours.
UPDATE @ 23:28 – At least 1 person has been conveyed to hospital for precautionary check ups.
Meanwhile on the fire ground, crews are winding the incident down having saved the majority of the property.
Although the fire is now under control, a search is underway for a small, ginger dog called ‘Woody’. The family pet fled the scene of the fire and has not yet been located.
Locals in the Bembridge area are being asked to keep an eye out.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 01:00 – Firefighters have now left the scene.
